DECEMBER 2004
December 3, 2004- My guests today were a "reel"
treat to fish with. Aboard were my good friend Charlie Noble, a
New Orleans native, but presently hailing from Las Vegas, NV, along
with his buddies Tom and Wayne hailing from St. Louis, MO. Charlie,
a lifelong friend of mine are fishing buddies going way back. He
had called me and said he would be in New Orleans for business and
meeting him there were Tom and Wayne. They wanted to get in some
fishing time during their stay, and I was able to get them out.
What a great time we had. We reminiced about old times as we all
had worked in the same business years back and all of us seemed
to know and share the old funny stories. Charlie Wayne and Tom were
all excellent anglers. We covered a few areas fishing tight-lined
assassins picking up some real pretty specks at almost all areas
we visited. From 7:00 to about 10:00 we boxed about 40 specks mostly
13-16", while throwing back only a few that did not reach the
13" mark. We were in some real nice fish in our first area,
but as the sun rose in the sky, our drift patterns were producing
less fish. We came across a spot were a couple of weeks ago my charters
were obtaining limits of beautiful specks before 9:00 a.m. and all
on plastics. As a matter of fact I haven't had a live bait on my
boat since October. This spot turned out to be the ticket to a 4
man limit (100) as Charlie Tom and Wayne absolutely slayed these
specks one after another finding the fish in 12' of water dead on
the bottom. Our catch nearly topped off a 120 qt. cooler with no
ice. The "baits-du-jour" were the albino shad curly tail
and the seashad in electric blue, rigged on 1/4 oz. jigs. I am sorry
that I did not have the camera with me to take some images of this
trip, but the guys are gearing up for a return trip to fish with
me in January. I will be certain to have some images taken for them
on that trip.

NOVEMBER 2004
November 12,13, 2004 These 2 days of fishing
would be in real tough conditions as a strong front would come through
s/e/ Louisiana. My guests for these 2 days were John Lowery, Dave,
and Jeremy Jungling of Jackson, Mississippi. The first day would
be real tough as we expected. Barometric presssure on the rise and
winds howling out of the n/w at 15-20 and gusting up to 25. We had
to fish real protected areas and did not have the luxury of getting
on the open areas where I have been having great results during
the extraordinarily warm October and early November our area has
enjoyed. We would make a number of stops without very much sucssess,
but as the barometric pressure would stabilize at mid-morning, the
specks would slowly start to feed. The major majority of our fish
were taken in 2 very protected areas, that were near a deep body
of fast moving water, and our really pretty specks in the 14-16"
class were seeking a bit of protection themselves and would find
our offerings of live shrimp rigged 3' under floats just too irresistable.
I thought we were going to have a slam fest there for a while as
our floats would dissappear almost as soon as they hit the water.
Some of these specks would reach the 18-19" mark and the guys
really enjoyed the action we finally had. We headed to the dock
with 31 speckled trout, and other mixed fish were taken as well.
Rat reds, sheepshead, and blackdrum.
The following day would be a whole other story. Within
a 300 yd area of a deep protected bayou, we would come across the
motherload of hungry specks readily taking our tightlined presentations
of bass assassins rigged on 1/4 oz. jigheads, and I would rest my
rod and assist in John, Dave, and Jeremys' absolute "assassination"
of some gorgeous speckled trout. Even after releasing a good bit
of 12-13" fish, they would achive their limit and mine, totaling
100 specks 13-16" before 9:00 a.m. The specks were really stacked
up and frenzied in this protected area not too far from where we
ended up yesterday. We could easily have taken a 6 man limit in
this spot. The guys caught and released specks for another hour
or so and then we headed to the barn. The guys showered up at the
camp and were on there way back to Jackson at 11:00 with over 40#
of sweet eatin' speckled trout filets. What a diference a day makes
